I am very pleased with the (Vicks) V5100N humidifier. I have not had a single problem with this unit with almost nightly use. I just wish the reservoir fill was on the top. ~4 3/4 stars~
Broke very easy
Not even 2 months of use and our humidifier got stuck and my husband tried to take it apart and it broke! Please let us know what we can do about sending it back to the company, really a great quiet function, however I am terribly dissapointed in the price, because it did not lasted under normal ussage. The white material is very brittle and just crumbled. Please help!

Have never tried this modal but have tried modal # 3100 it didn't work very well and had a elect issue I've been waiting to receive a new or repaired one back from Kaz that i mailed the old one out to them and haven't heard back yet and its been two mouths now , So i guess there customer service is bad as well . STILL WAITING
Nearly silent!
Thankfully, this humidifier is nearly silent. It is quiet enough to run near the bed while resting or sleeping. A good investment to use while sick, or simply when the air is dry.

Don't waste your money! This humidifier broke after 6 months of moderate use!
Broken on arrival
Have purchased this same unit twice before. For the price it is good for a year (I treat it as disposable). Probably would last much longer if you do all the detailed cleaning needed, but unlikely anyone will.
this purchase the unit arrived with a fan (internal) that didn't work. Luckily I had an old unit I could steal the part from (do not try this at home) and have the skills to do the part replacement.
2nd Time Purchased
This is the second humidifier of the same type we purchased. The 1st humidifier would revive 5 stars. We bought the 2nd one or our other child and when we used it a foul odor comes from the unit. We live in the same house and use the same water in both units. Everything is the same except one functions perfectly for about 1 yer now and the other is a lemon. We have had it less than a month and will return the item. This would be 5 stars should it have worked as the other humidifier has. We have purchased he other types of humidifiers an this item is worth the extra cost. Although you can get it less than 58 which is currently listed on the website. I hope you do not get a lemon like we did.

Save your money! Purchased the 1st one at Target and had to exchange it less than 6 mos. later. Motor came on, but no steam. Less than 4 mos. after that, same problem. This time Target would not take it back. Had to send it to Kaz for replacement. To make a long story short, every time after cleaning the unit, (per manufacturer instructions) it had the same problem. Bottom line, machine was replaced by Kaz 3 more times! Finally I received a refund check, since this machine is not reliable. I truly give this unit a negative star rating.

Vicks Ultrasonic Cool Mist
I would make this 5 stars b/c we've gotten this before and it worked great for my eldest child. We recently purchased a new one b/c our other had horrible build up from our hard water, and now the carpet is SOAKED the next morning. We are thinking something may be wrong with the unit, and will contact customer service. Otherwise, we love this product (from previous experience).

This is one of the best humidifiers I have found. We wanted something quiet, and this one is. The only down side is when you refill the water tank, the humididier makes a loud noise for about 5-10 minutes. It's not loud enough to wake up my 5 month old and doesn't have a lot of background noise in the baby monitor.
Vicks Ultasonic Humidifier
I bought one of these humidifiers last year and it worked very well. I chose this unit since it put out a nice heavy mist. I had it for a little over a year and one day it died and would not go on. It was over a year old (not by much though) and I was a little annoyed that they would not replace it. In any case I have a new one now and I'm hoping it will last this time. There is one strange thing about this one, which is that the motor is pretty noisey when I first turn it on although it quiets down as it runs. I hope this isn't the prelude to a problem. In any case when it works...it does so quite well.

Vicks Vicks Ultrasonic Humidifier
I bought my first Vicks ultrasonic humidifier in Dec. 2009 when my old humidifier finally died. My husband and I both got the flu the week of Christmas and needed prescriptions so I bought it from CVS. At the time I felt I overpaid since it was selling for $30.00 less at Target but it was well worth the extra price. We both love this humidifier and think we sleep much better when we use it, even if we are not sick. We use it all winter-it really helps my husband with the dry, sore throat he normally wakes with caused by snoring. I bought an additional one last year for the grandchildren's room-replacing the cute penguin humidifier I bought 4 years ago when my grandson was born. My 2 year old granddaughter naps longer and more comfortably when the humidifier is used. I recently needed to order new filters so bought a spare for my guest room-my brother and sister-in-law have sinus issues/allergies and I believe this will help them sleep better when they visit.
This humidifier is quiet and easy to care for. One tank of water will last at least 2 nights or 1 whole day if you are sick and need to stay in bed. I also bought the antimicrobial cartridges recently and have noticed a reduction in the white dust that usually collects-especially on the TV screens!
Great product-I highly recommend it for any room.

Brought this unit after weeks of researching. We need one for our little daughter's nursery. Like that the unit is quite and the mist is really fine.

I LOVE this humidifier! It is really quite. You can adjust the output of humidity. It doesn't leak. The only problem is that I have to order the demineralizer off the website.
5100 still going strong
I'm about to start my fourth winter with the 5100 and it's outlived the other humdifiers I've tried in the past. It operates silently, is easy to clean, and with the demineralization cartridge, the element stays clean! (I do use filtered water - PUR sink filter - in it too) I'm very pleased overall, and I'm especially happy that this costs much less than other brands.

I owned the previous model for the past few years and just bought two new ones, because I didn't care for the old one as I should have. The product works as advertised. It is fairly quiet and operates well in a 10x15 room. My only gripe is that it leaks a little water when you turn the tank upside down to refill it. A problem that was not present in the previous model.

This purchase was a replacement for our Holmes Humidifiers that use the same filter of which we still have three in stock. The improvements made to the regulator and mist vent on the Vick's model are very good and the tank is easier to fill than the Holmes model. The only down-side of this purchase is that the units are louder than I expected (not a deal breaker but the unit's "hum" is definitely not nearly silent).
The biggest surprise was with the shipping packaging. I ordered three units and two of the units were simply plastic wrapped together. They were, apparently, squeezed during shipping and the one unit's tank was shattered. I would have thought that the packaging would have been better. Please know that your customer service took care of the tank replacement in a very helpful and professional manner. Thank you.

Good machine at a good price
I was very pleased with the amount of vapor that the unit produces as well as the large reservoir for extended run time. The unit must be maintained and cleaned very frequently due to a fishy oder it produces after extened length of use. Other wise it is a very efficient unit and does what its made to well. I would recommend this product to friends and family.

As far as keeping the air moist and a very low sound, I love this product. What I don't like and I don't understand is why the unit gets a black coating on it. It may be due to the heat that I have. Other than that, I would tell others that this is a good product and I would buy another one.

We really like ultra sonic humidifiers. There are very few ultra sonic humidifiers on the market so choice is limited.
Kaz Vicks Ultra Sonic Humidifier is moderate in cost and very good at doing its job.
However, service life of Vicks Ultra Sonic Humidifiers seems to be limited to very limited, e.g
# Best we have ever gotten is two seasons
# Typical is one winter season
# Worst was about one month
We are on well water in New Hampshire so we do get some iron sulfide residue and salt residues on the ultra sonic head itself over time---despite regular cleanings with Q-Tips and changes in the Protec device. So perhaps these contribute to our Ultra Sonic Humidifiers just giving up over time.
Works well but hard to clean
This is our second winter with this terrific little humidifier. Nice adjustment capacity, easy to use. However, there are far too many nooks and you really have to be careful to get it clean / dry.

Almost silent
This humidifier is so very quiet that I put it right in the family room, and I don't even have to turn up the volume on the TV. I love the multiple mist settings and it is very easy to maintain. I am planning to buy more.

This is a great humidifier! I have 2 so far. i use one in a medium/large room and another in a medium room. It helped my baby's cold dissapear less than 24 hours after using! I like that it has an on/off switch rather than plugging in and out to turn on/off. It has more than 3 options for how much steam comes out. When you fill up the water, you can bring it from one room to another w/ out dropping water all over the place b/c it has a screw cap to prevent any water fom escaping while you carry one handed. Its not noisy and it also is safe for my 2 year old who inevitable gravitates toward this as his new toy. This humidifer has the option of putting vicks steam stuff in a special area which is nice. (I have also put actual vicks vapor rub into the water and the plastis area where steam escapes and it has not damaged the humidifier like it has with others i have used in the past. REally worth buying!

Before made order for Vicks V5100NS, I was told that it had "Silent Operation". After I got it and found that the noise come from the machine was not lower than model V745A.

We like this humidifier. It serves its purpose well. We just wished it held more water. My son sleeps about 12 hours and there is only about an hour worth of water left. We have been using this humidifier for about 3 weeks and haven't seen any white dust using tap water. We do live in the city so we do not have a well.

Works great, the one we had for years finally quit on us recently.
Looked at the reviews for many other units, decided to get another one of these.
The blower is a little loud, but you get used to it.
Deducted one star from the ratings due to the noise the blower makes.

This is my third unit of the exact same type. I really love that I can use it in my large bedroom or either of my childrens rooms because of the varied output. That and price are the two main selling features for me. I only gave it 3 stars because I find the filters are very hard to find and I wouldn't order from this site b/c of the additional shipping. In addition, I have had one unit crack, and 2 units that just stopped outputting. I haven't switched to a different model b/c I'm afraid to pay much more since they seem to "die" so quickly. We only got one season out of the last one and no one in my family has been sick since LAST December!

This device works very well. It puts out much more water (vapor) than stated in the mfr's instructions, is very easy to fill, very easy to clean, and is silent. The mineral grabbing cartridge used to prevent dust deposits works well, but not perfectly. I have not yet witnessed the device shutting down because of high humidity. I think the range of the humidistat should be adjusted so that it wou;ld shut off at about 30 or 35% RH.

2 different humidifiers have broken 3 months after purchase....this product is not reliable..warranty is no longer good from store....thats how they get you to spend more money..not again

Purchased this humidifier in November, 2010. The box indicated it was quiet. However, I find the constand dripping sound of water extremely annoying and worse than a loud humidifier. Also, when I first purchased the humidifier, you could see constant moisture coming from the machine. Within 2 weeks, it was only seen for the first 5 minutes of turning the machine on. I have been extremely disappointed with this and the previous humidifier I purchased from Vicks. Probably will NOT buy another Vicks humidifier.

The humidifier works very well, is easy to fill and clean and is very quiet. The only problem is that we have well water and it is very hard and so the humidifier leaves white dust about the house especially on the TV screens. I will give it to my son who lives with city water.

We found this humidifier does no better than a teakettle on the stove to raise the humidity level in our home as measured by a hygrometer. It probably would work better in a smaller space than our family room.

The product performs exactly as described. I wish the reservoir was a little larger, as the max settings require two fillings per day, despite a humidifier built into our furnace.
I would definitely recommend that all users keep filters in these devices as well as the antimicrobial device. I discarded my lst one due to build up of microbes.

I looked forward to getting this humidifer. So when it arrived I started to use it. Unfortunatley, it does not work properly. I stopped using it when I had to depart on a trip. Upon my return, I tried again to use it. The steam was a little better, but not what it was suppposed to do. The steam was just a trickle.
I have since called you and requested a replacement. I hope that it will work better than the one that I first got.

Just bought this unit a month ago. It doesn''t seem to work after about three weeks. I purchased and changed the filter cartridge it worked for a couple of days more then quit again. Is it something I did or didn''t do? I read the rave reviews of others and am wondering whether I am missing something? My mrs is ready to trash the thing. working well so far
Just set this up yesterday, as the dry heated air has been aggravating my cold. Today the air actually feels natural for a change. The mist is so fine, it doesn't even feel wet. The fan is a little loud, but not enough to affect sleep. The water here is very hard, so I fill it up with drinking water from a Brita filter - the cartridge should last over a month this way. In any case, I would recommend the high-tech ultrasonic type, if not this particular model.

At times this humidifier works wonderfully. It produces a steady stream of mist. At other times it produces mist for a minute or so and then stops. It may start up again and then shut down again and continues to do this for hours. I haven't figured out what causes this erratic performance. When it works right, it's great.

I replaced a 25 year old Hankscraft Cool-Vapor Humidifer model no. 240 with the V5100NS after the motor finally died in it. My first purchase of a Vicks/Kaz unit (the filterless model) was a disaster: I had to return it to Target within 48 hours as it completely failed on the second day of use to produce any vapor whatsoever. In addition, it was so loud that it sounded like a small jack hammer despite using towels to isolate it from a marble surface.
The V5100NS worked nicely producing copious amounts of vapor - almost immediately. I am using the DC-51 demineralization cartridge. The water from the Hetch Hechie Reservoir in the San Francisco Bay Area is considered some of the best in the nation with marginal mineral and dissolved solid content. However, within 2 weeks the air began to emit an odor of dust or grit. It was intolerable and really "stuck" in my sinuses for hours after exposure..
I have cleaned the unit as documented in the user guide. I don't know if the DC-51 should be replaced. Secondly, the documentation speaks nothing of reuse and storage of the DC-51 after moderate use. Anyone know? Cleaning around the blue cylinder is nearly impossible by hand (drying/wiping), and I have small hands. This is a poor service design consideration despite the attractive appearance and small unit footprint. There should be a means to easily and thoroughly wipe all surfaces. I noticed a small yellow spot on the nebulizer, which was removed with a cotton swab. The V5100 is an interesting improvement over the Hankscraft but lacks nearly 50% of the volume/capacity of its older competitor. Yes, I'm looking for a new motor to fix the 25 year old workhorse.

I LOVE this humidifier. The only draw back i noticed was that the vapor liquid seems to evaporate very quickly. Other than that it's wonderful. The auto shut off is Fantastic to have!!!

I have wam and cool mist humidifiers. This is far superior. it is quite and does not throw minerals into the air. Does not have to be cleaned like the warm ones do.
Not worth it
I was given two of these as warranty replacements and both failed within months. I followed the instructions carefully but the mist stopped after a few uses. I thought I had done something wrong because it is sensitive and has to be cleaned daily and I missed a few days. However, the second unit, I cleaned daily, followed the instructions extra carefully, and it too stopped working after a few uses. I've gone through four Vicks products in one year. I'm never buying this manufacturer again.

I am having to wait for Kaz to recieve the defective humidifier before I will get a new one sent to me. I am hoping it will work well once I finally get it. I am now wishing I had bought it at a store so that if it didn't work, I could have got my money back and bought another one without having to wait the weeks to send it back in the mail! It was not worth the few dollars I saved having to wait so long for a working humidifier.

OK so far
At first blush this unit is remarkably easy to use. It took only ten to fifteen minutes to set up and have running. It is very quiet and inobtrusive. All that is left is to see how it works long term. The only reason for four stars is I have only owned it for eight hours. I have to leave room for its ability to last. I have high hopes.

This product is two days old and does not work anymore. I read directions start to finish. It worked beautifully for two nights. It hums but the blower doesn't work anymore. Wow....I am disappointed. I will return it tomorrow.
Good short-term humidifier
We used the Vicks Cool-Mist Humidifier daily for two months, carefully following the care instructions. It worked like a champ and really helped reduce our allergy and cold symptoms in the time we used it. However, the unit stopped producing an ample amount of mist after two months, and now is not functioning sufficiently to assist our allergies. Hoping KAZ will correct the problem under warranty. Overall, I would purchase this again if it worked for more than two months.
