Leaking Humidifier

It worked great for two weeks, then it started leaking.  I'm trying to get it RMA'd now.

works really well however

This unit works really well and humidifies a room quite quickly.  My only complaint is that the water container doesn't stand up by itself in the sink or bathtub when filling.  So you have to hold it the whole time.  Not the end of the world I would still buy this again.

Humidifier

This is an excellent humidifier. Easy to clean, quiet to operate and fill. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a warm steam humidifier.

Disappointed

The water tank is easy to carry, BUT it is very difficult to fill since it must rest upside down on its rounded edge and  so must be held/balanced with one or more fingers placed inside the tank opening as it is filled and then the cap must be screwed on while extricating those finfers.  Our old Honeywell machine is no longer available, but it had a rectangularr tank with a flat top that rested on the sink bottom when inverted to be filled.  Simple and easy to fill.

The Honnewell filters we purchased do a very incomplete job of catching the minerals in the tap water and the heating element quickly becomes coated with mineral scale even with the use of the filter.

The outlet cannot be reotated to adjust the direction of the moist air stream as we could with our older Honneywell humidifier that is no longer available.

We are disappointed!

Better than you might expect

I am surprised by the vast majority of negative reviews that this model has received. I have been using Honeywell warm humidifiers for nearly 10 years, and my only complaint is about the tank.

I read many complaints about the humidistat. I find that they keys to getting it to work are:

* setting it: the older models required you to press a tab after turning on the unit. This is no longer the case. The dial on the right works as the humidistat

* realizing that you get what you pay for: these units are so economical, I don't expect the humidistats to be accurate to within 1%, though I find that they are reliable within 2-3%.

I read many complaints about the unit not working after cleaning the base. I was frustrated by this at first, but found that this is only a problem when I don't carefully seat the unit that I call the "tower" (the part that has the controls, and that the steam comes out of). When you put the tower on the base, jiggle it to make sure you have a secure electrical connection.

Leakage: this is the reason I can't give it 5 stars. The tanks are fragile. No matter how careful we are (we use mostly glass and ceramic dishes), these tanks eventually spring a hairline crack. One crack that is hardly visible to the best eyes is all that is needed to change the water pressure so that water overflows from the base and on to the floor. We have become accustomed to putting an absorbent mat under each unit to protect against this, so we catch it before too much damage is done.

Note that replacement tanks are nearly impossible to find. I have only been able to get them by calling Honeywell directly, and they were surprisingly expensive. I considered replacing the units to be more economical, unfortunately. However, this allows me to rotate the bases while I soak the minerals off (our water is VERY hard).

I clean the base by soaking it in vinegar, then scrubbing with an old toothbrush. Sometimes I let the minerals build up too long, and have to soak the base for a few days, changing the vinegar a couple times each day. Letting the minerals build up causes pitting of the heating element, but does not seem to hurt the effectiveness of the unit.

When I considered paying a couple hundred dollars for a more durable unit, I found that replacement parts cost $100 each year. For that price, I am happy to continue using these humidifiers.

Best Unit

This is the best ever Humidifier that has been made. I sleep much better with the warm moist air that the unit puts out. These Humidifiers are so good I have purchased three for my home.

does its job

works as expected, doing a fine job, only regret is that it only holds 1 gal. of water, the 3 gallons is misleading!

Like the KAZ

Even though we have a central humidifier in our hot are heating system, the humidity in cold weather drops sharply. We use the  KAZ  as a supplement in our bedroom.

No Filter?

I ordered this as a replacement for one that stopped working after maybe 2 years.  Did not realize that this newer version does not use filters (and I had a bunch left over from the old one).  While it's ok that there's no filter needed, it does get MUCH more mineral deposit and you HAVE to keep up with it.  I just did my first cleaning and there was a huge crust of minerals throughout the tray and the heating element was coated.  I did the requisite vinegar soaking, but could not get all of the crust off the top.  This model is much quieter than the old one and that is nice, but I'm still not sure if that offsets the messier cleanup.

Nice Improvements

Having owned a few of the HWM-450's (digital controls) I didn't hesitate to replace them with another unit from Kaz. This unit has several improvements. The heating element is redesigned and does a much better job keeping the crud off it, it gurgles a lot less when running, the water fill cap gasket system is greatly improved and the low setting is much better. The only thing I don't like is the watter bottle is hard to fill because its hard to keep it ballanced when filling it (upside down).

I would love to have an updated HWM-450 that has all these improvements. The digital hemostat control works better than this analong version in the 30-40% range. Plus with the digital version you can set a countdown timer. Set it for 8 hours before bed, and it turns off when you wake up so you don't have to remember to shut it down before going to work. Kaz, please make a digital version of this new design.

Overall 5 stars. Even thouh I would love a digital version, I bought this unit knowing it was analog and the quility and other improvemnets make this a great little steam based humidifier. My old units lasted a good 5 years and I wouldn't be surprised if I get that out of this.

experienced humidifier user

I bought my Honeywell QuickSteam™ 3.0 Gallon Warm Moisture Humidifier Model Number: HWM-330 at my local Ace Hardware, and paid twice as much for it as I ever paid for any humidifier previously, so I assumed that my HWM-330 would last considerably longer and do a better job humidifying.  Oooooooooooh was I wrong!  Throughout the months when it actually worked, the water tank usually leaked.  Even with the water container full, it only operated for 9-10 hours, despite the box advertising run time of “up to 24 hrs”.  But after only 3 months, it stopped working completely.

I wondered if I should just 'give up' on it altogether when I was at the post office shipping it back to Kaz earlier this week, because the shipping costs were as much as what I paid for my last humidifier (which functioned much better than my Honeywell did).  The best that Kaz may do is fix or replace it with one that works the way I feel a high-priced humidifier should work, but if I am wrong again, than I will have wasted over $70 total on this model.

If you buy this model, I hope it works 10 times as well for you as it did for me, but I don't recommend Honeywell for now.  To stick me with this bad of a device and expect me to carry it 4 times as far to the post office as I carried it home from the store AND pay $17 shipping costs to send it back to them is unreasonable, but I will see in the weeks to come if the return gets me anywhere.

The Walgreens and Vicks brand humidifiers that I used in years past were much better than the Honeywell was.  (And, if it matters, less than half the cost!)

humidifier

I have had several Honeywell humidifiers over the years.  This new one replaces one that I have used 24/7 for around 12 yrs.  The feature I like as one of the best, is the size of the water tank.  It allows you to fill it once every day or two, depending on current humidity.  Since I live in a high desert area, we are in an extremely dry climate.  Not only is it good for health reasons, but it also helps keep the house from being too dry.  I love it.

Reservoir is made of very thin plastic

This is the second product we have purchased this year.  The first, the plastic water reservoir cracked. I bought another one at the local hardward store and last night the water reservoir cracked on this one.  Can I just buy a water reservoir and not the entire product?

Honeywell Humidifier

This is my third honeywell humidifier and so far honeywell is the best brand I have ever used. I like the fact that it turns off when the water runs out and also the fact that this latest model does not use filter. I like it.

Not easy with hard water

In 2006 we moved to Arizona. After the first night of dehydrated head  I started purchasing humidifiers for the bed room. Ano/cathode steamers lasted a few weeks, evaporators were noisy and became lime clogged and the aluminum baffles became brittle then crumbled after several months. The sonic unit covered the room in fine white powder.

Finally I bought 2 of the larger Honeywell electronic models. One lasted 3 and the other 4 yrs. Went through countless mineral pads and still the heater plate would be thick with calcium carbonate (rock), bought distilled vinegar 2 gallons at a time. Despite the lime problem they were the most reliable, no odor, acceptable quiet & efficient humidifiers tried to date.

This year we moved to MO. , no longer need to run one year round. So for the winter of 12/13 we bought the dial control smaller version of the quicksteam line, and bought one for our son when he moved to a new apartment In CT. His water is soft and the unit cleans with a wipe of paper towel. They both work fine, There is a non-stick coating on the heating element that allows the vinegar to rempve chunks of lime quickly.

Highly recommend if you have soft water... or hard water for that matter, you'll just have to keep after the buildup.

Worked for a couple weeks, then just died.  This thing wasn't cheap and not at all worth the money.

A workhorse

I've had this model for over 7 years - it's very durable, but time to renew.  I've tried others but none was as effective as this.  I wish they would upgrade however with more features.  It is quiet and produces a lot of soothing steam.  I would recommend to anyone.

Easy to fill, also.

Unit is listed as three gallon, but water tank only holds less than two gallons, which means I have to fill it every other  night.

ShOcKiNg!!!!

Filled it once, ran it during the night. It was empty when I woke up the following morning. I reached for the tank to refill and it shocked me. I returned the product for a refund.

just the right functions

This product has just the right simple functions - warm mist, low and high range, and humidity control. Can always use a larger tank, but then it gets heavier.

lasts at most a year

stops working all of a sudden. first one lasted six months and second one year.

to the customer service's credit, they have replaced it once and are replacing it again.

i would of course prefer a refund.

my advice would be to buy a reliable one which may cost more but will at least do the job for some years.

HWM-450 service

I just want to say how happy I am with this product! Mine was the HWM-450 4 gal.unit. Ran it trouble free for almost 4 sesons, which is surprising as the water mineral content in my area was very high. The heating plate seemed to have stopped working and I wanted to purchase another or get repaired. I contacted Kaz and returned it. They sent me another similar one which even seems better, and at no cost except shipping! Outstanding service! This product is used for a variety of things, it steams model ship planking for bending better than anything I have ever used, it also will warm up cold defrosted mice for my snakes when they don't feel particularly hungry with a cold one!

Warm Mist Humidifer

I've had this humidifier for about 2 weeks now and I love it so far. I keep it on high so the tank only lasts about 12 hours but that's fine with me.
