Honeywell Turbo Force Whole Room Air Circulator Details

Nice fan

The fan worked great, but the fan has broken off of its pivot base. We hardly ever tilted it.

Powerful Little Fan

I purchased this Honeywell HT-908 Air Circulator Fan to use while exercising on my stationary bike.  The fan is perfect on the highest speed to keep me cool while riding as much as an hour on my bike.   Barring no manufacturing issues, I expect this fan will last several years.   I own a smaller version of this that I use at work under my desk to circulate the air in my office while I am moving around working.

So Far So good

So Far So Good as I just got this today.  I honestly liked the price and the 1 year warranty for peace of mind.  I like the fact that it was  cheaper then the Tower Fan; however, little more then the Box Fan but the Box Fan is more have a hassle and this is just what I need for this purpose at this point of time.

Great little fan.  It works so well and is quiet just like it said.  I had not know it was on high the whole time till I checked, meaning it was not loud.

Good airflow, reasonably quiet, even on high speed.

Lasted 3 months

Disappointed that these fans only lasted 3 months.  Both of them started to squeak and one finally doesnt start up at all.

DOA

Owned a larger Honeywell Turboforce fan that ran 24x7 for several years - wonderful fan. But I couldn't find that model # in the stores or online any more... Bummer!   So I ordered the smaller 908 Turboforce. Unfortunately, it never worked, completely DOA. Kaz responded with a shipping label but in the end, with the delays & repackaging hassle, I tossed the fan. So with a brand like Honeywell - you don't expect to return a dud, especially online, even with a label arriving a few weeks later.  So you wait for the fan, when you go to use it - it's DOA, you email customer service, wait for response, wait for snail mail labels, repackage product, lose track of label, find label, drive return to shipper... hmmm... that's a lot of work for a Honeywell Fan. Not at all like a quick trip into a local Target to buy or return it.

Moves a lot of air quietly

I was looking for a reasonably priced fan that would make a medium sized room feel cool without being too noisy. This fan did just that. I use it on the low setting and that provides enough air movement to make the room feel cool.

#1 FAN

After I purchased this air circulator I was so impressed with the unit and the service that I'm sure that I became Kaz's #1 FAN. No pun intended.

Compact & reliable, but what about efficiency?

I needed additional air movement in an indoor plant growing room.  An internet search revealed the HT-908, which looked interesting, so I took a chance.  I was reasonably pleased with this model so I examined it more closely on the chance I might buy more.

Indoor plant growing is energy-intensive, so before adding an appliance to the growing room I always evaluate its energy efficiency.  For a fan, this is the volume and velocity of air moved vs. the electrical energy consumed.  The electrical energy is easily measured, but measuring air volume and velocity is more complex.  To keep this simple I took a subjective approach, assessing volume and velocity by an air stream to the face at a fixed distance from the fan.  I compared the air stream from the HT-908 (a 10-inch fan) to the air stream from an old SMC-branded 12-inch oscillating fan purchased years ago at Home Depot.  The comparison was done at each of the three speeds, and the Watt demand and power factor were also measured.

From an energy consumption perspective, the SMC fan clearly outperformed the HT-908 as illustrated in the table below.  When operated with identical speed settings the HT-908 consistently delivered higher velocity and higher volume than did the SMC fan, but at a considerably higher power demand.

The relative efficiencies became apparent with the HT-908 at low speed and the SMC fan at high speed.  In this situation the SMC fan delivered considerably higher volume than did the HT-908 despite demanding only 32 Watts compared to 41 Watts for the HT-908.

Part of the efficiency difference is surely because the SMC is a 12-inch fan while the HT-908 is a 10-inch fan.  Big fans move air more efficiently than small ones.  A well-designed 60-inch ceiling fan with airfoil blades will move more than ten times the air volume of the HT-908 at the same 50-Watt power demand.

Three HT-908 fans reliably running 17 hours daily at mid speed got me out of a trouble spot.  If I need more before summer arrives I will surely buy them.  But when summer arrives and local stores are promoting oscillating fans, I'll be there to stock up.

Power Demand and Power Factor vs Speed

  HT-908 10-inch                  SMC 12-inch
Speed      Watts/PF                  Watts/PF
 Low            41/1                         27/0.97
 Med           47/1                          29/1
 High           51/0.95                   32/0.98

Note 1:  SMC fan delivered more air volume at high speed (32 Watts) than did HT-908 at low speed (41 Watts).

Note 2:  Both the SMC and the HT-908 fans were made in China.

HT - 908

So far so good the air is moving arround the room, without the discomfort of a regular fan blowing on you, it is also very quite, I can hear people talking to me.

Paid too much

Just three days after having received the fan, having paid $29.99 for it, I was in Costco and they had two of these fans boxed together for $39.99. Certainly feel like I paid too much. Fan was already out of box and in use or I would have sent it back.

Fan is o.k. as far as air movement, but not as quiet as I was expecting based on explanation on web site.

Built Tough

Excellent fan for circulating air through out a room and also drawing air from a room.  I've used this fan outside while cutting stone to clear the air of dust  for 2 years without any problems. To clean it I drilled 3 holes on the underside (to drain water)  and spray directly with soap and water hose. Allow to dry a few hours or blow compressed through it to dry it off and its ready to use.

Honeywell HT-900 and 908

Had a Honeywell the size of the HT-908 and love it. It really puts out the air and have had it for a number of years. Why change brands!!!

Great Air Mover

Pros: Does what it claims, moves a lot of air. Tilts in many directions. Cons: Knob starts from high to low, would prefer low setting first, then to high setting.
